one of my old posts...

        thursday, july 13, 2006

wow...there are a lot of people around me that are engaged...at least 9 that i know of.  does that mean i am getting old?    i guess as long as the number of single friends i have outweigh the married friends i am still young.

the number of my engaged friends are starting to outweigh my single friends.  should i start to panic?

it took almost 2 years but it was worth waiting for the perfect one.

it's so easy to get discouraged...to give up.  sometimes there seems like there is no hope or no way out.  slowly, little by little, your spirit and faith starts to die.  you become bitter and angry.  and then God shows up...and He humbles you.  He reminds you that He is your hope and where you need to place your faith.  He is the way out, the light at the end of the tunnel.  He shows you that He hasn't let go, that He hasn't given up on you.  that He loves you...

"trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."  [proverbs 3:5-6]

God's love is perfect and unconditional.  it is His love that has carried me through the past 25 years of my life.  i am thankful and humbled once again.

and now i will show you the most excellent way.  if i speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, i am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  if i have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if i have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, i am nothing.  if i give all i possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames but have not love, i gain nothing.  love is patient, love is kind.  it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.  it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. love never fails.  and now these three remain:  faith, hope and love.  but the greatest of these is love. [1 corinthians 13]

dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.  everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.  this is how God showed his love among us:  He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  this is love:  not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.  dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.  no one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.  God is love.  whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.  in this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgement, because in this world we are like him.  there is no fear in love.  but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.  the one who fears i not made perfect in love.  we love because he first loved us.  if anyone says, "i love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar.  for anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.  and he has given us this command:  whoever loves God must also love his brother. [1 john 4:7-21]
